Tang compatibility...

Yep, sometimes they will work togtehr but usuall not. Espically if one was in there for a while and has established his territory. A large tank helps with this but more often than not, they will fight.

A large purple will use every oppertunity to show his territorial dominance. The tank is big but I wouldn't chance it w/ these two. Why not a hippo, or sohal or Powder Blue? They will work if introduced at the same time and around the same size. Good luck.

depends on how big is the tank, if its about 125 there wont be problems as long as you can provide with many caves and try to put them around the same time because one tang in first for a while will get very territorial.

I had a yellow tang, powder blue, and blonde nasso. the yellow was most dominant. usually the most dominant will corner the weaker tang and pick at him. just keep an eye and make sure it doesnt get to to bad. after a few days they wont even notice one another. the thing you have to watch with the yellow tang, that white spot is a razor sharp barb, and he will slash the others with it. he could slice them good, or even cause an infection which also isnt good. but my yellow was dominant, and after 2 or 3 days forgot all about the other two. and the blonde and powder blue never faught. another thing to remember is they feed basically the same, so competition for food source comes into play, once the dominant sees they will still eat, and the new tang doesnt affect his food supply, they shouldnt fight. I did put 2 seperate sea weed clips in my tank though. that seemed tohelp.

if u put the yellow tang in before the larger purple u shouldn't have any problems espically with a tank that big. u could probably even put another tang in thre as well. I love my hippo tang the most he's has awesome color or maybe a PBT or an achielles (sp?) they're pretty nice also.

Thanks. Right now they are both in quarintine but seem to get along fine as long as the yellow tang doesn't get to close, then it's just a little rear fin rubbing. The purple tang as a mild case of hlle, but I'm hoping it heals in a few weeks. I picked him up from the lfs for $25, a deal I just couldn't pass up. The lfs also has a 7 day gaurentee so I felt pretty good about it.

I have the same opinion as Wamp.
Putting two Tangs of the same Genus in the same Tank is just asking for stress. I would not expect your Yellow to live more than three or four years in that situation.

I agree w/ some who say that it may work. I personally would not chance a yellow and purple since they are from yhe same family of tangs and same shape.
I again restate that you'd be better off putting a ytORPT w/ two other tangs. All being from different tang families. With a tank as large as 160 it should work.
Now I read that you've allready purchased both and they are in Q. I guess it's worth a try noe that you have them. Keep in mind that just because they are ok now, they have yet to establish territory and my opinion is that they will always be under some stress from jousting in the larger tank. Good Luck.

I've heard the same thing about 2 tangs of the same genus in one tank, they will fight. Try getting tangs of different genus's. I had a red sea sailfin tang and a powder blue tang lined up to go in the same tank but the powder blue died at the LFS, so i ended up with only the sailfin.....i think theres a chance they will fight.....
just my opinion...
