Tang ID

I had a tang which was sold to me as a Blue Eye tang. It looked similar to the Kole but had blue eyes and didn't have as much of definition in the markings on the body.(it did look great when it opened up it fins in front of the light) It was a very attractive fish that died when the tank came down with ich while i was out of town. I can not find any information on this guy anywhere. I can't even find a site on line that sells these guys. I was just curious as to what type of tang he actually is and if they are common or not. My lfs gets them in all the time. They say that these guys are the best algae eating tangs that they know of.

Did the fish happen to have a yellowish body? I have an Atlantic Blue Tang which has a very pretty blue eye. I've seen a lot of tangs and that's all I can think of.

I also think that it could be the Blue Tang (Acanthurus coeruleus). As juveniles they are yellow with a blue eye, but as they change to an adult they will become darker in color similar to the kole. Hope this helps! :)

It had yellow around the the fins but you could only see it when it opened up the fins. I guess you could say it also had some yellow on the body but was mainly a dark gray color. Anyway thanks for the help.

Hey I think I have the "one" your talking about.
Not sure of the right name.. He's got blueish
eye and lips. When he opens his fins you can see
a hue of yellow. What a great fish he huge and loves to eat.
I think my LFS called it a "Vlaminga" Tang or
"Lipstick" tang.
I have a few pics of him on a disk. If I get your E-mail I send them to you.(If I can figure out how).
PS This fish grows quit big and you'll need a big
tank. I saw one at the LFS that was bout a foot long. I may have to find a new home for mine soon.
