Tang is trying to kill my coral beauty...

Everywhere I looked said that they were compatible...well...guess what?!!! These two are not. I never wanted the tang...my dh did, and since he funds this tank, I have to let him have his way every now and then. I bought the coral beauty yesterday, and the tang bothered it all night, tried to kill it. I'm on my way to the lfs to take back the coral beauty, because I can't catch the tang. Will it do every fish this way? He doesn't bother the clown fish that was in there when he got there, or the scooter blenny which I put in after he arrived. Suggestions? By the way, the yellow tang is a juvenile.

You may try moving your stuff around in the tank...live rock, deco etc, sometimes this tends to bust of the territory a bit.

Actually, the tang follows him all over the tank, and attacks him anywhere he stops. I've already taken the coral beauty out and am on my way to the lfs for a trade. I just don't want this to happen again today when I bring home something new.

Wow, i've seen tangs be aggressive but this is something else. jwtrojan44 is right on though, there are no guarantees. I've never seen a tang act so aggressive. I've added my coral beauty after my hippo and that wasn't a problem, but even things that we think are sure really aren't.

I agree with JWtrojan, there is no guarentee, but when I added my coral beauty I had to banish the yellow tang to the 20 gal he was so aggressive. I kept him there for 5 days, re-arranged the rock so he wouldn't have the same territory when he came back. It worked for me.

I agree... try rearranging the rock or decor in your tank. you dont even have to try to catch the tang to do this.. do this right before you add your new fish, can be done while you are acclimating the new arrival...wont give the tang time to find a NEW territory..
hope this helps, Kim

One other thing that is sometimes helpful is to add your new fish in the evening, then go ahead and turn out the lights so they calm down and aren't so stressed, then the next morning there may not be as much trouble.
