IMO - I wouldn't have more than 1 yellow tang in any tank 100 gallons or less and NO less than a 75 gallon.

they say to have more than 2 so they wont fight with each other,2 or more they seem to school with each other than fight with each other. we have 3 yellow tangs and they usaully leave each other alone but once in a while 1 is having a bad day and chases the others around. and for diff tangs in the same tank its possible but you need to get diff 1's with diff body shapes, they will usaully leave each other alone.

schooling fish almost always do best in odd numbers if you have the tank size that can house them yellow tangs are schooling fish but if you have even number they tend to fight

yes, although tank size plays a major part in the possibility of housing 2 or more, its still hit or miss..... even with odd numbers, unfortunately. There will most likely still be one fish with dominance over the rest

sorry alyssia, i was talking about keeping 2 tangs of equal shape, size, and/or color in the same tank... i.e. 2-3 yellow tangs. A kole and a yellow is a great combo... i myself had a purple and a goldrim.

So you may have a problem keeping a yellow and purple together, right?
I'm not doing it now, but I'm planning for the future when I get a larger tank.

I have 3 tangs in 150g and its going great ( the purple and yellow at first not the best tankmates few days they work out the issue but my kole is so sweet) The tank is the first thing then get tangs on the same day ........ Good luck

SWF tech support told me that I shouldn't put a Purple Tang in with my Yellow Tang. I've got a 240g in my office so I'm not too sure why they would be a problem being together.

I have a 210 with a purple, yellow, and a sailfin. All of them were added at different times, they get along great.
So i think this is inline with clown triggers, it is a crap shoot, or hit/miss. Good luck whatever you do decide to do.
