Tang Reccomendations?

I am putting together my stocklist and would to add another tang to the list. For a 125 gallon reef I have decided on so far: 2 perculas, jawfish, bicolor angel, pennant fairy wrasse, engineer goby, green mandarin, fuzzy dwarf lion, and a mimic tang. I am looking for a very hardy, colorful tang that isnt too pricey but also isnt your everyday blue hippo and yellow. Any thoughts? I'm open to all suggestions so keep them coming.

Both tang you have selected are good choices. Yellow tang hardier fish more agresive. hippo is less agresive, but needs to be quarantined due to ick problems. I lean towards the hippo, had mine for 3 years raised him from a 1" and now 4". Good luck with which everone you choose. And remember always be safe quarantine.

I did want a gold rim but heard that they are very hard to keep. Why is this? Are they an ich magnet like the powder blue? Also what about a purple tang? Anyone have any info on them?

All ick can be treated, please do not not get somthing because it is an "ick magnet" ick is treatable. Also what about a purple tang? The purple tang is of the same genus as the yellow and should not be kept together. Otherwise i believe the purple tang is fairly hardy. Anyone have any info on them?
Just my opinion.

Im not saying that I dont want a non hardy fish so I dont have to treat it for ich. I just dont want to fail in treating it and have it die right when I get it and waste a big chunck of money. Does anyone know the survival rates of ich? From what I have read not many fish survive it. Thats the only worry I have with a gold rim or a powder blue. Like everyone else I want my fish to live a long, healthy life. I stated above that I did NOT want a yellow or a blue hippo just because they are SO common I just want something different. I think I am leaning towards the purple though to go along with the mimic. Any other reccomendations?

what about a yellow-eye kole? they're usually pretty available and hardy, but not as common as say a yellow or hippo.

Would a Red Sea purple tang be happy in a 125? I know that the Red Sea has a larger fin (based on pics I have seen) but is that the only difference?

a purple tang would be fine in a 125. i don't believe that they are larger than the yellow. they can be more territorial, which is why most sites give a larger mininum tank size for this tang.

i'm loving my kole tang. its a fast swimmer, loves the rock, helps me clean my glass...
it gets along with all the fish in the tank as well.

Purples are mean. Atlantic Blues need a school. I have yellows, yellow eye kole and atlantic blue. My favorite is my "Des jardin" (Red sea sailfin) and yellow eye kole.

I USUALLY KEEP MY TANK AROUND 78 T 80 DEGREES IN TEMPERATURE. I ALSO RUN A UV STERILIZER. ON STERILIZERS I LIKE TO GO OVERBOARD ON WATTAGE THOUGH.
I'VE HAD A COUPLE FISH GET ICH WHEN MY STERILIZER GOT WEAK, ONCE I REPLACED THE LIGHT, THE ICH WAS GONE WITHIN SEVERAL DAYS.

I second the Chevron tang. Great color. Many pictures on the web look too dark, but it is very colorful. Look around and you can finda good pic. I also like the red sea purple tang and the scopas tang. Again, it is tough to get a good picture of the scopas, but it is a great green with black dots. This would be a third choice.

they are endemic (only found there) to the red sea and arabian sea. saying red sea purple tang probably boosts sales because fish from this region are famous for having great color and for being hardy.
hot, i'm also interested in the atlantic tangs.
