Tang troubles

I have noticed over the last day or so that when I get up in the morning and check the tank (before any lights come on) my Yellow tang has a brown spot in the middle of his body. I assume this is a stress mark, but not sure why he is streesed. Once lights come on he seems fine. any thoughts?

Yeah, my yellow tang was like that as well... he'd have the brown spot before the lights came on. Once the lights were on though, he would be his normal color again.

Its Ok. The brown strip that you see is his lateral line. It detects electric charges and so forth in the water. When you shut the lights off (or the sun goes down) the tangs color will fade. And when it does, you can see the line. As long as you don't really notice it when his/her color returns you should be ok. Its normal.

this is simply the fishs nighttime coloration. if you look at any of your other fish, other than nocturnal ones of course you will notice this as well. Flame hawks go from brilliant red to almost pale pink to almost white. this is totally normal and is nothing to worry about!
good luck
