Tang...

I have a terrible hair algae problem! I have tried Urchins.. Snails.. Crabs.. Skimmer.. nothing all the water parameters are good. Would a tang eat this stuff? And if it would, what kind of tang would you recommend?

I wouldn't try something to eat the algae I would find the source of it. Most likely high phosphates or nitrates, if you fix that the algae will go away on it's own

i had a feeling somebody wouild say that. phosphate and ammonia at zero. algae is not burning off. back to what kind of tang... any suggestions?

the phosphates show zero because the hair algae is using it all, there has to be something there for the algea to eat or it wouldn't be growing. As far as tangs I've never had one so I have no idea which ones eat algae the best

a kole or yellow tang might take care of the problem, but try using phosephate sponges for a couple weeks first

have you tried mexican turbo snails. I put 5 in my tank and they cleaned up my hair algae problem in a couple of days!

My Naso and Yellow Tangs eat algae like crazy in my tank. I've heard Purple Tangs are great algae eaters too. Like everyone said though, don't count on them entirely, sounds like there might something else wrong too. But more fish is always fun too

If you must use a tang, I would recommend a kole or chevron tang. My true suggestion would be to tell you to get an algae or lawnmower blenny.

I recommend a sea hare. They work best, IMO. I wouldn't purchase a tang. They dont do THAT well of a job, imo, and they'll raise your phosphates even more, because you'd be adding another fish.
