what is the hardest tang there is??

Id say its a 3 way tie. The achilles tang (Acanthurus. achilles) and powder brown tang (Acanthurus nigricans) both of which rarely live in captivity. And the third is the large, ocean tangs that get over 2 FEET in length.

I agree, generally most Acanthurus sp. can be a challange to keep...on the other hand Zebrasoma sp. are some of the easiest.....as far as tangs go....and I sure would not want to get in a fight with those ocean tangs, Prionurus sp., some have up to 7 spikes on each side of their tails...

what about the white cheek tang? looks similar to the powder brown???? im thinking about geting one off of saltwaterfish.com so anything you have will help.

The Whitecheek is the Acanthurus nigricans that Jon mentioned....rarely survives...
Most Clown Tangs are very hard as well, most are very mean too.

Acanthurus sp. are the harder species to care for whether just hard to care for period like the Achilles or extremely agressive like the Sohal or Clown. One of the easier to care of is definately from the Zebrosma(sp?) sp like yellow, scopas, sailfin, or purple(even though they are pretty aggressive in their own right). Oh yea and the unicornis sp, the Naso and Unicorn or Vlaminigi tang are easy just need proper tank size 125 gallon minimum tank size and good water conditions.

1 Hippo
1 Sailfin
1 Purple

All in the same tank for 5 years so far except the Blue Eye I added a year ago.
