You can live for sure, but it will not be a good life and you will not thrive.
This is absolutely correct:
Tangs ARE open water swimmers and do much better and less stressed in Large swimming area tanks 6' or more is ideal, Will one live in a 55 or 75? Yes, Will it get large and become cramped and more stressed? most likely. The only people who will say the contrary are the people with guilty consciences(spelling) who are trying to make themselves feel better who have 3 tangs in their 55g.lol Anyway how would yo like to be stuck in a closet your whole life? ha ha lol
Or try this one, try being an adult and swimming in a kiddie pool, yeah your gonna keep wet but you would rather be in an underground pool, no?

I went scuba diving in Bonaire less than a month ago. There was a school of about 1500 tangs blue and black mostly. I followed them to take pictures of them because it was INCREDIBLE to see all of those fish swimming together, stopping together to much on some greens, then as a unit, move on... I think I swam over a mile in less than half an hour! So yes... they are very big swimmers.

I agree the closet comparison is ridiculous. To say you can keep a tang in a 6ft long tank but not a 4ft is also ridiculous. Like 2ft really makes that much difference in comparison to what the Tang had in his natural enviroment?
Stuffing a tank with a huge wall of live rock end to end leaving only a few inches in front to swim and maneuver is much more of a problem for the Tang than a 4ft 75 that has plenty of open space.

let me get back to being serious. in all honstey the annaligy of tangs being kept in 75's is like humans being in a closet is to wrong to be true. i mean in the wild tangs cover thousands of square miles. so i could be saying anyone who owns a tang or a fish period is like a human growing up in a closet. lets be real with ourselves 125gallons compared to the ocean is nothing neather is 1000000gallons. a tang would be fine in a 75gallon tank no doubt no mater what n e one says. but since were all fish advocates and everyone is like cant be kept in n e thing less than 6ft we should quit this hobby and dump all our stuff in the ocean and throw our tanks out so they can have all that room to swim. lol heack no!

OK, I'll bite.
I'm not the tang police. I think 4' tanks are ok for some tangs, if kept at low stocking levels and not crowded with rock. The only ones I can think of that would do ok, long term, are; yellow, purple, kole and mimic tangs.
6' might not sound like a lot of space but it's 150% of 4'. Sure the ocean is ideal but if we are going to keep these animals, let's try to provide them the best home we can.
Now for mixing tangs. It can be done. Doing it is putting your tanks balance closer to the edge. Aggression may not come out but if the slightest thing goes wrong or stresses the fish, it's right under the surface.
Please use better english. People will give your posts more credit.

i agree with your point its just the fact that people are way way to uptight about a tang in n e thing less than 6ft. you have to agree it is kinda crazy.
