how come some yellow tangs have a brown/black line going through their eye

Some species do and some species dont. The ones that do is because thats just how they are. No why about it.

because I have seen pics. with yellow tangs that have a line and some don't have a line :joy:

OK, Yellows. Yes they all as far as I know have a dark area above and below the pupil. On mine some are darker than others. I dont know why this is and dont think it has anything to do with health. I have had my for years and dont see any difference of the fish. I would not make it an issue as far as selecting one if you think it might be a problem or not. IMO.
