Tangs?

I have heard all over the place that you can only have 1 tang per tank but.. then I see and hear of tanks that have 2+ tangs in their tanks.
So, does that mean that it can be done, in a large enough tank if they are just a different species of tang? i.e., Naso and a Hippo
thanks!

is can be done. most people who have tangs have more than one. if your tank is 6 foot, you can have multiple tangs as long as they are not the same shape or color.. for example a purple and yellow tang wouldnt be together.

Nice - yea, I've got a 125 6ft with a LARGE naso but would like to add a Hippo and just haven't because of what I'd heard previously

that's if the tank is 6ft standard 125.
you can have a purple with a yellow but the tank needs to be more around minimum of 200 with lots of workwork for hiding.
and yes, you can add multiple tangs to one tank as long as your tank can support them and they're all different body type/color.
how large is your tank? tangs are aggressive grazers and vorocious algae eaters, but because of their grazing habits, they need ample room to swim.
if you have a 6ft 125, i wouldn't exceed having four tangs in there at once. I kep it a rule of thumb to only keep 3 at any given one time. Just plan ahead. For example, if you want to get a purple tang, then don't go out tomorrow and buy a yellow. These two guys will rip each other apart (as i unfortunately found out back in my high school days) :(
They are an extremely fun family of fish to keep though! Two of my favorites are the chevrons and speckled yellow eyes! They love eating the algae off the glass too!

how large are you talking?
125 g is the minimum tank requirement for a naso.

She's probably about 9-10 inches - she's awesome and I've even got her eating out of my hand in the last week or so.
Besides her, I've got a mated pair of maroon clowns, lawnmower blenny, Coral Banded shrimp, 6 turbo snails and probaly about 40-50 blue hermits
110-120 lbs LR and LS and the CC I'm working on getting out
the tank is a 125g - 72 x 18 x 22
I really only want to add 1 more fish and then continue working on coral. the kids of course, want a Dorey and have said no because of what i'd heard.

wow 9-10 inches! @_@
IMO that's huge for a 125! If your kids are really heart set on getting the "dory" then I would seriously consider bringing in your naso to the store. You would get some nice credit for a 9-10incher. Then you could consider getting not just the dory, but a purple or yellow and a kole for example. 3 Tangs = more color and more movement in the tank (I'd consider it) Although I understand the bond you'v gained with your naso. We've all had'em!

I have wondered at times if she is too big BUT...she seems very happy/healthy, she spends all day swimming back and forth and she's got some great swim throughs in the rocks- PLUS....$$$ willing I want to upgrade here soon and just the keep the 125 for sump/fuge
