Tank @ 59 Degrees

My roommates left the window by my QT open last night (its 9Degrees out right now) and I woke up to a dead Goby but my Maroon Clown was just fine. So I reached in with a net and grabbed him. To my suprise it was icy cold. So I grabbed my thermometer and checked it....59. What should I do here. It just has a small heater so it will slowly go up. Is that my best bet to just let it do its thing?
Or should I get revenge and grab her prized goldfish that she loves so much. Just Kidding (I wouldn't want to here her cry for hours over a .30$ fish, since mine was $25
)

I'd try to get the roommate that left the window open to replace the fish, but depending on what wattage/tank size, I would let the heater do it's thing to raise the temp and save your other fish. Do you have a spare heater? You could throw in another one to help, but it shouldn't be too fast so the fish doesn't get too much shock; the temp drop probably shocked it a lot already.

I agree...you don't want to raise the temperature too quickly as it will only add to the stress of your chilly fish.
Does your roommate at least feel bad about your fish?

It is a el-cheapo Walmart heater that I think is 50w but I am not sure. The only other one I have is my 250w stealth in my DT but that really can't be taken out. Yes they feel bad. I told them as soon as I saw them. Its only 9 degrees out here right now, why would anybody leave a window open in that weather?
I am assuming my heater is going to take 1-2 days to bring the temp up. It will probably jump up a degree every hour or 2. Is that a good pace?

Well, I think you could do it quicker than 1-2 days without causing too much stress. I'm not sure how quickly adding your DT heater would make the temp increase, but if you have another one that's roughly the size of the one you already have in that tank that would work out about right.

I would also make sure my heater was working Im sure the inside of your home was not nine degrees so your tank may have dropped to the ambient temp of your house and your heater never a have come on at all

Temp is currently 68 in there. My clown is back to his original hovering over the PVC pipe state. Before he was tucked down in the bottom corner not moving much (probably trying to conserve energy)
I think I scared my roommate enough that she will be afraid to open the window in the summer so it shouldn't happen again.

I just wish I didn't lose my goby he was the first fish I got.

I will have different roommates when summer hits and the tank will be in a windowless kitchen on the basement level so I should be fine. The tank is currently @ 73 degrees so I think everything should be fine by morning I hope. The clown is back to his normal self where he comes to the glass like he wants to be friendly and then darts away.
Hes a gimp though so I don't expect much (missing pelvic fins)

Its one of those cheap preset temp heaters. It is working fine and the temp has been rising since the window was shut. Hopefully by the morning the temp will be back up to normal and my Clown will still be alive.

I would say it is a good time to play it safe and upgrade to a better heater... They seem to malfunction with all too much ease.

Maybe today when I get back from the LFS (and buy a heater and cupramine) I will do a heater swapout and throw the small one in my Pico and a better one in my QT. I didn't buy a larger one for my QT because I was broke at the time and didn't expect to have it up and running for the past 4-5 months.
