Tank Backgrounds?

I have no background on my tank right now, and I'm looking for some input on some good backgrounds.
Are the self adhesive ones any good? Do they have the ugly "voids" where they don't adhere? Are there certain brands that don't have voids?
Will a black background darken up my tank too much? Is a blue background generally more aesthetically appealing?
I definitely do NOT want a background with fake plants and fish and stuff. I think those look retarded.
So basically, what's a better color? Black or Blue
and what's a better kind to get? Non adhering or self adhering?
Thankee

I have an all blue background. Fake backgrounds are not generally used/ I have a solid piece of blue LEXAN behind the glass,it works better than "paper" ones because it doesnt look wavy . I suppose you could glue a paper one to a thin piece of wood so it would be smooth. I have the bottom of my lexan resting on the rear of the stand and the top held flush with tape (you cant see the back of the tank anayway)

black or blue... personal preferance, i like the black. I have the non adhesive type, and it has some bubbles in it, my girlfriend has a black adhesive on her 10 gallon, and if you take your time, it looks great. check the phot section to find tanks with both colors to see what you like best.
