What is a factory? A factory is a group of workers creating products. The sole purpose of the factory is to create something. The main purpose of these filters is to house aerobic bacteria which do what? They create nitrates from ammonia. Calling it a nitrate factory imo is totally fine
However adding one to a tank won't make nitrates from nothing. If I added one on my tank, I wouldn't get any more nitrates than I get now because all this is doing is giving bacteria a place to live. I know what you are saying Joe, but I think nitrate factory is an appropriate term for it.

The problem I have with the label nitrate factory is that it is used in a derogatory way
