Tank connections?!

That would work, although I think you would need another tube below the first tube. Each tank will have it's own filtration? I think for the one sump to work for both there would have to be two tubes. I am not sure enough flow would go to the other one with just one tube unless it is large. (I know you just did a crude drawing of your idea, maybe you are planning it larger than it looks) Maybe a second tube with a powerhead directed right at it from the tank with the sump? Then the other tube (the upper one)would just be a slow back flow of water that the fish can go through.

I was thinking about doing two 60lx18hx18w tanks and a L shape tube that is 9x9 so that there is enough room for a school of fish to go from one to another tank. This will also allow easy cleaning and I can point a powerhead on one of the sides of the tunnel and it won't make it too hard for the fish to get from one tank to another.
The tanks will have two tanks under them.
One will hold all of the equipment because I don't like the look of my tank with it in there.
The second will be a DSB sump that will have cowfish in it and another creative idea i'm working on.
Where the tunnel is on the display tanks, directly below will be the corner of the sump that will have a mangrove section in it. This will allow the mangroves to grow up in the corner of the room, and will also grow around and above the tunnel to give it a more natural look and a spot for some creatures to feel safe with the protection.
*The problem* - if the mangroves aren't controlled on how they grow, the mangroves could put pressure on the tunnel causing it to crack so that will be something to research bonzai for hints.
Again, these are all ideas still in thought until i figure out more important things like where I'm going to live after college.

You do know that cowfish grow to be 18" right? They need at least a 180 gallon tank. They get very large and spook easily. They also release toxins that can wipe out your entire system if they start to die or are severely harassed (not that it would be an issue if he were by himself) Other than that your plan's sound great! I would be carefull on the mangrove for the reasons you already stated. It is an awsome idea though and I am sure once you fine tune it the tank will be spectacular!!!

Well then I'll make a tank for him too, after the connected one. But I do want to get some fish in the sump. Which is why i thought of the cowfish because they are shy so why not let them have their own little refuge.

i had actually thought of connecting tanks as well...which is the ONLY reason i'm selling the one i have, becuasae the lady promised i could have mine that i dream of...which is basically taking two 75s plus a square tank that is the same heigth...and connecting them to make a wrap around tank...basically like your design kayak but with a square tank in the corner.

I'm going to play with acrylic for a while and hopefully become the master acrylic tank maker and then do a coop with SWF to make tanks, regular/custom for people.
Now that would be a lot more fun than credit card processing(what I do now) but then again, i'm having a great time.

master glass tank maker = cuts on my fingers and cracks in the tank along with flowing rivers of fun... no wait, i don't need to wash my garage floor. Acrylic is easier molded and lots more fun to work with.
