tank cover

I took off my regular tank hood to make room for my lunar aqualight. now i have nothing covering my tank. is this alright? or should i get a glass or plexiglass cover for it? the light fixture sits about 3 inches off the top of the tank. it has 2 65 watt compact fluorescent bulbs and 2 moonlight leds.

you are fine....if fish jumping is gonna concern you then get some eggcrate for the top

I wouldn't say you "need" a top because I know air is good for it but evaporation is the problem... and I would go w/ a some kinda cover like that if possible cause evaporation sucks you'd have to add fresh water every day! lol...

i like evaporation, it helps keep the tank from overheating

I actually like evaporation too. adding freshwater makes me feel as though the quality of my water is a bit better.
