I started A 100+ reef (or to be someday)and I bought some very fresh live rock from a friend and went with arag-alive aragonite reef sand. it sayes that it has 20,000,000+ live bateria per pound and reduces the initial amonia spike.I tested my water every day it has been two weeks no amonia spike. is it possible to not have one at all or so short i missed it?I saw no nitrite spike or nitrate.I set up a fifty gallon some time ago and the water took forever but i used dry sand any info would help.the bag of sand also sayes i can add fish slowly in the first three weeks.

add a piece of coctail shrimp to it to start the cycle. That should get the cycle going.
They put whatever they want on the bag. If you believe it shame on you.

By "very fresh" do you mean that the rock essentially left his/her tank and went directly into yours? If so, the beneficial bacteria would transfer and could eliminate a cycle. How much live rock did you take? How long has your tank been running with just the LR and zero inhabitants?
I used LR and water from my 55 reef to set up a 10 gallon nano. It never cycled and about 8 months later I haven't lost anything from the tank.
