Hi guys

Just reading that i need a good flow going through my tank that i recently set up. First of all i was wondering the reasons for this and secondly I would like to know what kind of flow and what products i should use.

I have 2 and a half foot tank 50 cm high 40 cm back to front. I have 2 tomato clowns, two common clowns and a cleaner shrimp

Thanks guys

There is a lot of flow in the fish's natural habitat. The tides and waves crashing into the reef create incredible current. That alone is a good reason. The flow in the tank also keeps the detritus stirred up so the filter can remove it. A couple power heads, don't have to be fancy, with maybe 400-600 gph flow rate placed on opposite sides of the tank so the flow can crash together in the middle will work. I got some cheap ones on amazon that were called wave makes (they aren't) for maybe $12 each. They work well for me and have been running for about months.

You can put 15 pumps.in the tank and still not match what the ocean does.not saying do that. But flow for one makes oxygen in the water.you still want a couple slow spots for the fish to rest. But still a little water movement so algae dont grow.the top of the tank to ripple a bit for gas exchange. Yea.a new tank takes a bit of moving things around. Eventually you will get it right.

Hi,

LOL...The REASON is that saltwater has less oxygen in it then freshwater does. The wave is the life of the ocean and our saltwater tanks. The flow creates gas exchange to replenish the oxygen. A 2.5ft tank needs nano size power heads. That being said... a 20g tank is a super tiny SW tank. You have 4 fish in there, and one set of clowns already overstocked it. Clowns need a minimum of 30g... Tomato clowns are more aggressive, and the fight for territory is inevitable as they mature.
