Tank in Crissis?

I have had my Biocube 29 for a little over a month now. Everything has going fine, I didn't even experience a nitrogen cycle because of all the live rock I used in the filter and tank. This morning, when I got up, I fished a half eaten hermit crab out of my tank, it was out of its shell, which was nowhere to be found. About an hour ago I noticed my Sally Lightfoot crab was not moving, and just pulled him out and he is dead. Could there be a problem with my tank?

I'm definatly not an expert but I know that the first piece of info the PROS are gonna want are your levels. I would test your water and post all the levels(nitrates, nitrites, ect) so we can better help you. How long after your tank was set up did you add the inverts???? and how long were they in there before you noticed the problem??? Did u use RO or tap water??

I have 10 hermits, 2 clowns, 2 peppermint shrimp, 10 snails, and a queen conch. I added everything about 3 weeks ago. They have been doing fine since.

Are you sure the hermit wasn't a molt you pulled out? If not it could be just crab warfare going on.

just because you used a lot of rock doesnt mean the tank doesnt need to cycle.

Had you added anything prior to this? Any new fish? Could there be some kind of invert eating your crabs? There are many things this could be. Your levels are fine IMO and you are not in cycle. This seems to be caused by an unknown outside factor, usually predator related. Please list all fish and inverts in your system, Im sure the answer is there. Is your Alk levell DKH or Meq/pl?

Sounds like a stow away in some LR at least it could be. Try looking at night with a red light (that wont disturb most animals night vision) and seeing if anything comes out that you did not put in there.
