Tank Location

New to SWF.com, new to SW. First post... wet behind the ears. (no pun intended).
I was thinking of setting up either a 55 or 65 gal tank (36" wide) on the cabinet (42" wide). I think it would be cool with the mirrors. I was also thinking of laying down some sort of matt beneath it to help with excess water. Also put in some additional support beams to help with the weight.
Will I run into problems with the space being too confined? Also will too much sunlight be an issue? At the time I took the pic, that is about the max light that hits that cabinet.
Thanks in advance

...LOL...Welcome to SWF (officially now)
I would definitely add some support JUST IN CASE.....SW tanks can get pretty heavy with all the sand and rock in them...and the extra equip
Light looks ok to me.....

Hey Joe,
It's a gas fireplace.... in the winter we probably use once every week or two. Last time we used it was probably a month ago and really just the marble around the fireplace got hot, not so much in the area near the cabinet.

is it vented to the outside I would set a surface thermometer on the joining wall and fire it up,

If the tank takes up the entire top why would you need to add support. All the weight would be on the supporting sides. If you go adding supports you will need to remove the bottom of the cabinet unless you are adding in the middle. Which would cause more problems. Im not a carpenter so I must add Im just guessing.

Some cabinets are just not made to hold 500lbs ....

Good call, I'll give that a shot and see how hot it gets.... not sure on if it's vented up or out, I'll have to check on that too.
Thanks for your help.

What about the tank being so close to the back door with the windows? If enough sunlight comes through, could that be a problem?

He said that the pic shown is about as much light as ever hits the cabinet...IMO that should be fine

I will bet Joes pay check its vented up. Go outside and look above the area on the roof for a vent.
FYI not all gas fireplaces are vented to the roof, if it backs to an outside wall it may very well be vented there

FYI my fireplace is not vented to the "rook". But it is through the "roof"! And thats why its your paycheck. So not all fireplaces are vented outside?

I never said they are not vented outside just that they are not all vented through the roof

I didn't mean to start an argument over fireplace ventilation, but I check on it and is vented out the side of the house as opposed to the "rook".
