Tank Stand Material

Ok so Im getting ready to buy a stand for my 72 bowfront and Ive come across some issues with the ones Ive seen so far. Now I might be a little off sometimes, but to me the stands made from high density fiberboard (well call it HDF for now) seem a little unsturdy. I live on the 3rd floor of my apt. complex and the last thing I need is my neighbors greeting me at the door wondering why theres gallons of water creeping through the ceiling. Anywho... my question is this. How many of you have stands made from HDF, solid wood or "other material"
Thank you, Thank you very much <---- Elvis

I have a 20g on a 1" thick HDF bookshelf. I wouldn't go any bigger on it tho. I would look at either pine or oak and go thick with center dividers.

My husband and I build tanks stands as a side business, I do not recommend building one out of MDF at all!
Go with 3/4" solid wood, either pine or oak. With our oak stands we build a frame out of 2x4's and then skin it with oak plywood and 1X4's, you can buy raised panel doors from Home Depot you have to order them though, at the correct size.
Go to some fish stores and look at thier stands, if you are handy, you should be able to build a simple pine stand quite easily:
These are the pine stands we build.

I would never even consider building one, lol. Id be like, where'd these extra parts come from? The stands that Ive seen for bowfronts have been made out of the HDF. Theres a LFS that can order me a stainless steel one but I dont know about that, lol. Im going to look at an oak one tomorrow. My fingers are crossed.
