Tank Swap?

I posted this in another forum, but no answers...and I was hoping to get a quick one, like normal...sohere it goes again
I have a 38 gallon tank that I have up and running for about 9 months now. I got a 32 gallon hexagon awhile back, and was curious if I could put 1/2 of the water from my 38 gallon tank into the 32, and in both put the rest of new saltwater in. Or would this be too much "new" to put fish in both right away? Thanks alot!

Swapping the water or splitting the water would do very little if anything at all to aid in the new tank setup...the nitrifying bacteria you are hoping to switch colonize solid objects...
You could put some of your media from your new filtration system for the hex into your old tank...that will get some colonization on it...

What you can do is split the water and move some of your Live Rock to the new tank and your done.
If you don't have live rock (you have a filter system - then your tank will cycle, however since your water is already rich with nitrifying bacteria you WILL JUMP start the cycle. It will still last about two to four weeks but this is a very standard method of kick-starting the cycle.

I have about 20 lbs of live rock, with live sand. I wanted to put crushed coral in the hex, and move the seahorse over there. I washoping to put my corals in the hex as well but I don't have the light for that. I have a canister filter that I was going to throw on the hex, along with one powerhead. And leave the rest of the powerheads on the 38 gallon.
