it goes over 85 on ocassion.
i tried the fan idea but i think it only works if the air the fan blows onto the surface is cooler than the water, which it isn't in my case. 85 degree is with lights off.

Man, the heat index was 108 today and getting hotter over the weekend. The thing that sucks here is the humidity that you guys don't have. It was 98 today with 80% humidity. Ask Snipe, he knows what I'm talking about.

I'm having the opposite problem, yeah, it's 90 degrees here with at least 90% humidity, but I have my AC running all day. I came home from work today, and my tank temp measured only 78 degrees. I'm trying to adjust slowly upward with my heater, but I also don't want to over shoot my mark!!

Well, since leaving the two little plastic lids open the temp has been staying around 81-82 which is much better.
The light is only a flourescent 10k one 4 ft strip, standard. I have a powersweep 229 and a penguin 1140 and the mag 5. Together they should have about 980 gph, I think. I guess I need one more?
I was thinking about that plastic egg carton thing and doesn't it have a side edge that serves only to raise the lights up a little but not to actually let more air in? If so, then wouldn't it work just as well to have little spacers on the corners under the plastic top?
