Tank too big for stand...question

I have had my 55gal for over a year now, I put it on a desk I had. No doubt the desk is sturdy enough, however the tank has is one inch too long on both sides. How bad is this on the tank? It has been on this stand for a year no problems. Plan on getting a stand this summer was college is done with and I am working more.

this will definitely compromise the integrity of your tank. it's cheap to grab a couple 2x4's and build an ugly stand. on the other hand, it's a lot better than cleaning up a broken tank. or go to salvation army or goodwill and pick up a coffee table. it'll be low, but strong.
or come on down to kc and i'll sell you a cheap used stand, i'm turning my 55's into sumps.

:thinking: another speculation of mine is that if the tank seams have shifted some over the last year, the tank may actually leak when you move it to a completely level stand if the silicone and/or glass has shifted. 55's are cheap or sometimes free around here, but we have a strong local fish club. :cheer:
