OKay so I have a well established 55 reef about 8 months old now and am Wanting to upgrade to a 125 I have looked a nd priced and decided on the tank and have already built the stand for it now I was wondering if this idea would work for transferring. What I want to do is set up the 125 with 60 lbs. of Lr and 4 inches of Ls and let it cycle then I was going to transfer all my inhabitants and live rock /corals to the new tank. Is this an okay idea or is there a better way to do this?
By the way inhabitants are
Scooter Dragonette
2 Blue reef Chromis full grown
2 Firefish mated
Yellow Tang small
2 peppermint shrimp
2 camel shrimp
2 emerald crabs
35 or so astrea snails
77 lbs Live rock

As long as the tank is stable it should be fine. As long as you bring the LR over to the new tank from the old tank. I would also use as much of the old tanks water as I could. You may even want to use the old sand as well. This way the tank will have enough bacteria to deal with the bioload the inhabitants put out.
I would also just try one of my fish in the new tank to start with to make sure there are no problems.
