tank unlevel

I have a 90gallon that seemd to be level (bubble between two lines on level). After I filled it with water and
sand/rock it now is about 1/4" off from left to right (over a 48" span). I have read both opinions that you should
put shims under the stand and that a little off level wont be a problem. My thought is that if a company buit a
tank that has to be perfect or it will break there would be an a lot of people with wet floors. I understand that
it would be ideal for 100% level but is it realistic/neccessary. I should mention that the tank is in the basement
on carpet.
Just looking for some opinions.

Welcome to the site!
It is important that the tank be level, very slight difference is no big deal but 1/4th is too much, it puts way too much stress on one side to be safe.
I also have a 48" 90g and 1/4th off the top is allot of water
Just my .02

It's one of those things where you may never have a problem, but you need to ask yourself if it's worth it to leave it as is and risk a failure later.
Tank failure is one of the most catastrophic things that can happen to a system... consider that if it happens, not only are you making a gawdawful mess of your house, but even if you catch it early, you probably don't have any place to put rescued livestock.
1/4" over 48" is significant, but it not so significant that I could predict failure with certainty. If you are on a concrete slab it probably won't get any worse.
If it were me, in this situation where you haven't started stocking yet, I'd level it.

We'll I think I got the tank level. I shimed the bottom of the stand. According to my level it looks good but I swear sometimes the water looks a little off then the next it looks good. Maybe it's just me being parinoid about the possibility of 90gallons of watter sitting on my basement carpet.
