Tank Weight

How much weight is too much for a glass tank. The reason I ask is because I have a 40 high that I bought three weeks ago and in it I have close to 40 lbs. LS and about 23 lbs. of LR. Yesterday after I added the new LR that evening I noticed that the tank was leaking around the base. Needless to say I had to run out that night and buy a new tank. Was this because of a weight issue or was it just poor construction? I have read that I should have around 40 lbs. of LR if not more. After the incedent that I just had I don't know if want to any more weight to my tank. :notsure:

I think it would be a bad tank although it could be because of what you have it on, Is it on a tank stand? The weight of the rock should not be that much of an issue, some people cram much more rock into their tanks then you and they are ok...

leaking would have nothing to do with weight, just bad seals.
But you do want to make sure your new tank is as level as possible, a tank being out of level puts stress on it and can cause it to crack or the seals to leak after time. Level the stand not the tank.
