we are looking at a 265 gal but i was wondering is there a limit a floor can withstand? a 265 with sand rock and water would weigh a lot i'm sure but would the floor be able to withstand it? smack me if this is a outright dumb question

It will def hold it. I am in construction and I know for a fact it would hold it. Plus think of people that put water beds on a second story!

265gallons X 8lbs/gallon = ~ 2100LBS
stand and tank = ~ 600LBS (total estimate)
about 3000 LBS total say the tank is 6 foot long by 2 foot wide so you are looking at around 20 LBS per square inch. If this is over a main floor support beam to prevent sagging and bowing over the long run then it won't be a problem. If not then there definatly need to be some support underneath th floor. Most newer houses ahve central support beams, APTS do not however.

yea it all breaks down to pounds per square inch. A standard size man ~180 LBS on 1 square foot area displaces about 15 pounds per sqaure inch so you are not that far off. Now granted that weight is not stationary but you get the point

no i understand what your saying , its a commercial building and it would go up against a wall and the wall downstairs is in the same place so thats some added support. i appreciate you quick response

no prob. Commercial building are probably even better because steel is normally used as floor re-enforcement.
