Tanning Bed Lights Question

I've have noticed that you can get VHO tanning bed lights for
much cheaper than regular reef tank lights.
They sell them as morning, noon, evening and a few other
choices for sunlight. Anyone ever try these or hear anything
about them. They run about $18.00 each. 6' 160watts.
Thanks!!

I wouldn't think that tanning bed lamps putting out UV light rays would be good for a marine tank.
Wrong spectrum I'd guess.
I don't know for sure - interesting question.

Just think about all the new marketing opportunities for sunscreen!! :D Of course, only the waterproof variety would be viable;) .

I believe that the algae bloom created by these bulbs would be record breaking. Also, the heat would definatly be a problem.I have been in a bed a few times and it damn near cooked me in 20min...Immagine 8 hours!!!!!..I would NOT suggest using them on any aquarium...Salt or fresh...

The lamps themselves may not be suitable, but perhaps the ballasts would be cheaper than what are typically used in the aquarium trade...Where are you seeing these for sale? I would be interested in researching this...

That was years ago,,Now I get all the sun I need out on the lake all weekend, every weekend...I'm almost glad fishing is almost done for the year...Funny how when you turn something you love to do into a job it starts to suck the fun out of it...

I have a friend of mine who owns a tanning salon doing us a little research on the ballasts used to drive the tanning beds. We may just be on to something... lol
