When replacing evaporated water in a salt water tank, should I use regular tap water or reverse osmisis water and why? thanks

I believe that anyone here will tell you that without a question you should use RO water instead of Tap. I read somewhere that there are times that water facilities put certain treatments in there water as a way of flushing out contaminates, this can be detrimental to your fish tank if used without some sort of RO/DI unit. I would recommend you use RO water for all evaporation and water changes to avoid any problems.

Use RO/DI water. A good RO/DI unit will take the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of tap water to 0... cleaning out vertally everthing leaving you with 99% pure H2O.

i would use RO. my ro unit normaly registers between 2-6 ppm of TDS. this is much better that the tap at 250-300 ppm tds

The DI (De-ionizer) just gets the water a little cleaner. Basically it will pick up what the RO misses.

The DI piece is very important, the ro filter doesn't catch every thing. Some RO filters don't filter out PO4 or NO3. I feel no ro system is "really" Complete with out di part of the whole system.
