i have always used tap water from day 1. i have not had any problems since i set it up in january. Am i eventually going to have problems if my changes only consist of tap water?

Not necesarily. Keep an eye on as many of the water qualities in your tank as you can as it may cause a build up of nitrates and phosphates. Your animals will soon let you know if they are not happy with what your doing.

Given half way decent tap water, many aquarist will initially set up their tank with tap, then do water changes and top offs with distilled or RO. Check you tap water just like you would your tank [ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosophates] and based on that, make your decision as to what to do with your system.

SOME CITIES USE AMMONIA TO PURIFY THE WATER, IN THIS CASE, USING CITY WATER FOR WATER CHANGES CAN BE TWO STEPS FORWARD AND ONE STEP BACK WHEN IT COMES TO NITRATES. I'VE CHANGED TO A TAP WATER PURIFIER.
