Just make sure it's nothing stupid that you will regret in a couple of years. Myself, I have over 100 tats and love everyone of them. HA! I have alone 39 sea turtles that are about 2 inches long that start on the top of my foot and travel up my leg, side and onto the shoulder. Get something meaningful. I worked at a "Honu" (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle)rescue for a couple of years at Eva Beach, Hawaii when I was stationed there the first time.

Thinner skin or more boney=more pain. Less painful spots are bicep/shoulder, upper thigh. Everyones pain thresshold is different. Alot of ppl go get a tat thinking that it really hurts, start getting it and when they relax to much to soon, all the blood rushes out of their upper body and they faint. It sort of feels like a sunburn getting touched.

I find the expeirence liberating. I have about 20 differnt tats on my right arm and shoulder. I would agree with hot, that it has to be something meaningful. Also, throughly research your tat artist. I have seen some pretty ugly biffs... And that is a very long lasting biff.
My first I got when I was 18 (the youngest w/o parent consent) it was an MC Escher. I love the tat because the artist did an excellent job, but to be honest, I had no Idea what it was supposed to stand for. Since, I have come up with a nice cover story, but now I hate the idea of getting a tatoo because it was cool looking or because my friends where doing it (both prime reasons why I did it). It may work out though, I discovered on my second tat, after years of reflection, when they do mean something, you'll vivedly remember that event, or period in your life when you look at the tat.
And as a last side note. If you do get it, follow there care instructions to a T. Otherwise it fades and never really takes, espcially with black ink. Good luck

So get it 1/2" tall now...it will expand! I got my first one at 18 and must say, they are addicting. I can't get too many more being in the Air Force but as soon as I get out, I'm going to get full sleeves. I love the look of art on a body as long as it has meaning.
If you are asking a message board about what kind of tat to get, I personally don't think you are ready yet...but...it is your body, not mine.

I agree. I went to South Lake Tahoe this summer. It was beautiful. We stopped and panned for gold along the American River. The kids thought that was super cool. I hope you make it back home soon and thanks for all you do to help keep the rest of us safe.

Yep, make sure its tasteful, and easy to hide in case someday you don't want it, you can cover it. I have a tattoo of Mickey mouse above my left

, close to my heart cause i am a disney fanatic.
You have to be 18 to get one in Pa, but my 17 yr old just got one without my permission, depends on where you go. His is a very cool gecko with great coloring on his upper back.

I live in CT.
I believe for you to walk in on your own and ask for a tattoo you have to be 18. I THINK that if your parent goes and signs you can be under 18, but it is still the artist's discretion.
One word of advise is to make sure you go to a few places and check everything out. Make sure they are using new needles on everyone..(common sense they should, but they may also sterilize them) Here is a picture of my husbands back. This was done here in CT. It took him about 44 hours total. As much as i was not for it, I love it. This picture really does not do the piece justice.

That is a very nice tat. My cousin is an artist in FL and wants to mural my back. I have the picture all picked out...just waiting on the month off work so I can go down and get it all done.
