I just got a TDS meter with my ro/di and tested my tap water to see what it was and I'm going to test the ro/di this week when I get it in. what do the numbers mean what is good or bad?
I don't know anything abought the TDS but what PPM means.

TDS = Total Dissolved Solids..aka..Dissolved organic compounds
PPM = parts per million
I have not used one so I can not tell you what numbers you should be looking for. If there is a manufactrue number on it you might want to try to get a hold of them for specific usage.

According to a local Ro/Di water company the closer to zero the better. I recently replaced my sediment and carbon filters on my RI/DI unit. Before with the old filters the TDS was 30 ppm, now they are at 10 ppm. He told me that that was pretty good because my local water supply unfiltered is at about 450 ppm. HTH

I tested my house water and it was 102 out of the tap. I will test my RO/DI later this week.

I could not wait till later this week and put in my ro/di tonight this is what I found.
the tap water was 102 (taste like crap)
the Ro/Di was 1 (best water I have ever had)
the water I have in my tank to test for leaks is 134.
my ? is way is the test water in the tank so high?
all I have in it is the sand.

it's giong to be a reef but I just put tap water in to test for leaks so to answer your question it's just tap water and sand.

after doing this test I think you are right.

I got a TDS meter for Christmas, and started testing everything I could find.
Here's a list of my results:
Tap 39ppm (pretty good here in Atlanta)
Fridge 33ppm (filtered through a carbon block)
Kent RO/DI 1ppm (and I haven't changed the cartridges since last year!)
Evian 287ppm (I always thought that tasted like mud)
Dasani 28ppm (Coke says its RO with minerals added for taste)
Publix Spring Water 153ppm (local grocery bottled stuff)

try this make some ro/di water in a clean cup and test it now just stick your finger in it for a few secs and see what your tds is then. my tap water is 432ppm and my ro/di is 0ppm with new filters. i changed them out after 6 mo when my dts was 6

The excess crap (thats a scientific term for dissolved solids) raises the freezing point of tap water. Since you've just about got pure H2O out of your RO/DI filter, its freezing at a lower temp. Your fridge is probably close to the freezing point of water, but those minerals and garbage (also componets of TDS) in there before kept it from getting icy.
