Charity telemarketers are worse than regular telemarketers! While others may sell you something worth only a quarter of what they ask you to pay. The telemarketing firms often will donate less than 10% after their "administration fees" of what you give them.

I've had them call my cell phone. Before the do not call list and privacy director, I just let my grandson or anyone else's kid that happened to be over talk to them until they got tired of talking---presto they were gone.

Anytime one calls, after telling them not to call and to remove your number from their lists, threaten to file a complaint with the FCC for harassment. Given the amount of the fine they would receive they normally don't call again.

I actually had one tell me I had "permission" to hang up the phone! When I asked his name he gave a name and told me he was with the FBI. I then asked for his supervisor's name and He said " Joe Johnson, special agent in charge, FBI". I asked for a phone number and he rattled off an 800# that turned out to be an ad for a --- talk line. I think I laughed for a week about that one.

I like to keep them on the phone for a long time and pretend to be interrested. Sometimes if I am not busy when they call, I get them to go into a real long dissertation, then I ask them to repeat what they said because I didn't quite understand them. Then I put the phone down and walk away. I have even acted like I was dismembering a body by saying things like "put the arm in the bag, watch out for that, there will be a lot of blood when you cut there..." Then listen real closely to the other end of the phone. I've also done much worse while they are on the phone, but that would be for an x-rated board... Nothing like faking like you are reaching nirvana with a telemarketer trying to sell you something...
"sir are you ok?"
"no,no it's ok, you were saying..."
ooohh, ooohh ya baby right there! keep going, Ya! !
gotta keep life interesting!

I am on the do not call list and I have only had one call in the last year. I promptly reported them to our attorney general for violating the list. I haven't had any more calls. I used to work for a telemarketing company and would get cussed out all the time. I think people need to remember that the telemarketing callers are just trying to make a living. It's the company that called them, not the salesperson. I'm in no way saying that you should listen to them, but maybe just saying no thanks, goodbye, and hanging up would be better than being rude.

I hate getting text messages on my cell phone. Nextel charges ME every time a telemarketing company sends me a text message. I think I will start refusing to pay for it.

it's illegal (or at least was when I was installing cell towers a few yrs back) for anyone to solicit you on your cell phone due to the fact that you pay for air time. it's an FCC violation (each state has their own regulations on it), you just need to report the caller/text sender.

M13, I agree with you. The people that are doing the calling are just doing a job for probably minimum wage. It is the company policy of doing the calling that sucks.
Lock, A number of years ago there was a charity concert, for I believe the sheriff's dept. Not sure what it was but it was for something related to the sheriff's dept. I knew that my wife would want to see the person at the concert so I bought one ticket. For the next 2 years I received phone calls from every type of agency related to law enforcement. Deputy volunteers, Sheriff vounteers..... You name it if it was realted in any way to law enforcement I got a call from them. All I did was buy a ticket for my wife for a concert that I knew she would want to see.
BTW Carole, Thanks for your kind words.

privacy director, do not call list and caller ID have helped me out alot! i do still get some calls though, if i dont recognize the name, or sometimes the name will actually appear like the newspaper here, then i just dont answer.
i do like the idea about sending the junk mail back to these people. i get more junk mail than phone calls now. i am going to start doing that.
some of these companies spend so much $$ on their junk mail that if they quit doing it, they could actually reduce the price of their product.
i'm gonna go through todays mail, 95% is junk! this will be fun!!

the other thing i am gonna do is instead of sending the phone bill junk back to them, i am gonna put the electric junk in the phone bill and so on, this will give the person opening the mail something to read. :hilarious
