I bought my first frag of zoos today with only 8 polyps or so... tell me everything that is good to know.... I tried to read up on them but havn't found any good info. I want my to thrive and multiply fast
They can tolerate pretty much any kind of lighting except for normal flouescent tubes, they can be placed in pretty much any flow (except for very high), easily fragged any colorful frags will sell/trade easilly, one of the hardyest corals. The only bad thing is if you get a non reef safe fish on accident, or a fish that is sometimes reef safe and sometimes not zoas is the first thing they normally go after.
Thanks mike that was a good thread to read... Everything I have read says lots of light.... but I also read these are a low light coral. I about 6 months ago upgraded to a 46 gallon tank after my 20 gallon cracked, I am a college student and low on funds and I didn't want to dump a lot of money in this tank.... I thought it would be fun to just do frags and watch them develop. Today I got 2 mushrooms and a small frag of zoos to start with. My goal is lots of color. ( I am avoiding drab browns)... I thought this would be a nice start to my perminate tank i hope to put up when I stop renting. But because I hope to have a larger tank in a few years I don't want to put the money into lots of lighting. I have a 20" 96 watt pc that I am proping on top of my 46 gal. Will this be ok with zoos and shrooms.... I now a longer light would be better, I just don't have the funds to invest, but i miss the corals i could have in my 20 gal.
