TODAY I WAS AT FISH STORE IN ANOTHER STATE I FIGURE I STOP IN. I SAW A STINGRAY IN THERE FOR $55.00. STINGRAYS WAS MY INITIAL REASON FOR GETTING A SALTWATER TANK BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THERE WERE FRESHWATER STINGRAYS. ANYWAY, THROUGH FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT A 125GAL TANK IS NOT SUITABLE FOR A RAY, WHICH I HAVE. SO I SOON HAD A CHANGE OF PLANS OF WHAT I WANTED IN MY FO AGGRESSIVE TANK.
SEEING THIS FISH AT SUCH A LOW COST I'M REALLY TEMPTED TO TAKE A STAB AT THIS FISH THAT I ADMIRE SO MUCH. I FIGURE THE RAY IS ABOUT 7'', IF I LEAVE THE TANK BEAR WOULD IT BE SUITABLE FOR THIS FISH?
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW TWO THINGS IS IT WORTH IT AND WOULD MY MEANS OF HOUSING SUFFICIATE?

One of my neighbors has a freshwater stingray in a 70 gallon hex aquarium all by itself. It is also about 7 inches. However I think he paid something in the line of $200 for his. His ray is also about 7 inches and spends most of the day glued to the side of the tank.

Well, actually, I would not recommend it at all. Personally, I have been in the freshwater hobby for 27 years now and I have dealt with nearly every freshwater fish you can name. There are a few fish I haven't had, though. Freshwater stingrays are totally different than saltwater rays. Saltwater rays get much larger and I only recommend a 300 or more gallon tank for a saltwater ray as they get much larger in length and diameter than frshwater. Freshwater fish can handle a lot more stress than salwtaer fish. Get a 300 gallon tank with a soft substrate and pick one up. But I recommend you have a 300 gallon tank before even attempting one.

thanx, lionfish I've decided that I would abandon my personal addiction for the sake of the ray. I thought about it and nobody should even attempt to buy any animal without a suitable home for it.
