temp controller question

i just got my temp controller in. do i set my heater just above what i want my water temperature and let the ranco determine when it gets power.

It really doesn't matter what you set the temp on the heater at, as long as it is at or above the desired temp, because your new controller will start/stop based on the range that you tell it.

....on second thought, you are correct....stay just slightly above desired temp, but no more. This way if your controller malfunctions and ever gets stuck in the "on" position, at least your heater will only go up to it's setting. These things are notorious for malfunctioning.

thanks , i have no faith in heaters except that they will fail sometime, and temp controllers are new to me so they havent earned any faith yet.
