Hey Guys, I Know I Have Asked A Bunch Of Temp ?s In The Past Few Weeks, But Would It Be Less Stressful To Keep My Tank At 79-80 Degrees Or To Let It Slowly Climb From 76 To 80 Over The Course Of The Day? Every Day. I Don't Have A Chiller As They Are Too Costly. I Built A Canopy To Raise The Light, And It Seems Like No Matter What I Do The Temp Always Climbs To 80 In The Evenings. Right Now I Have 1 150 W And 1 50 W Heater In The Sump. And It Seems Like They Never Come On. My Ambient Room Temp Stays At Right Around 75-78 Or Colder Most Days. I Need Help. This Has Been Bugging Me And I Don't Wan't To Start Adding More Delicate Fish Until I Know That Everything Is Right. Do I Need A Bigger Heater Instead Of The Two Smaller Ones? What Can I Do? I Was Thinking Of Getting A Mini Fridge And Drilling A Hole Through Both Sides And Running The Plumbing Through That To Cool It, And Also Using The Fridge For Food Storage For My Fishes. Anyone Try This?

Do you have fans on your lights? If you keep your temp at 80 then it is going to climb to 84 degrees with the lights. Your temp should be at 78-79.

Its best for the fish (least stressful) to keep the temp consistent. If the highest temps you are experiencing are acceptable, set your heater there.

Do you have fans circulating air between your lights and the water surface? If not, that might help.
I keep my temp 80-82...it was jumping higher but I figured out that fan thing and it hasn't fluctuated more than 1 degree since.
I've been thinking about the mini-fridge thing too, let me know if you give it a try.

sorry the caps lock was on, and it puts all caps on the first letters. yes the tank is by the window, but i keep the blinds and the curtains shut. i think i will be doing the mini fridge thing. i just have to wait until my dad gets another one on closeout. i got the tank to stay pretty consistant at 78 yesterday, i had the all glass covers open all day. i was thinking about a fan too. thanks for all of your help guys

if you turn the heated up to 80 you should be fine... the lights should raise the temp to 84 because when the lights are on the heater will be off and maintain the temp right around 80... mine is set at 80-82... i could be wrong but this makes since/works for me...
