are all canopys wooden or metal???
i used a canopy cuz i can hide and mount fans..

I hung the metal reflector's and the sockets from a 4'L x 8"W x 1/8" piece of alluminum. This spans the tank. My hood lid sits on top of this piece of alluminum. I had to remove a 8" section of the wood from my lid bracket to fit over the alluminum so it would sit flat.
Works great. My lfs is now using this technique to installs retro fits in other customers wood canopy's.

same here i would like to trade for some leathers but cant get a ansure
my idea for my tank config is a 75 gal and a 125 gal end to end seperated by enough to put a matching cab door inbetween (for hiden overflows cords ect...) on one stand that can be seperated for when we move w/ a 55 gal fuge and a 55 gal sump w/ l/r and a 3 pice hood. 1 for 75, 1 for 125 and 1 for overflow. still working out the details in my head.

how about a single stage temp controller... tank hits 84*F.. temp controller shuts the lights down... only problem.. if your tank hits 84*F easily then your lights arent gonna run much
fans directly at bulbs do change their spectrum... fans in the canopy moving air in and out.. no worries.... fans at the water surface increase evaporation which cools the water but requires more water topoff... which is good if you drip kalkwasser.
having a large sump would help... the more the total volume of water.. the longer it takes to heat it up.
i didnt read all the posts in this thread.. but thought i would throw my .02c in... sorry if it is redundant.
