Temp question

Well summer is here and it seems like even with the ac on my tank is bouncing around 80, I had it at 78 since beginnig a few months ago, My thought is 80 isnt too far off the scale right?
Do I really need to invest in a counter measure or can I let it ride at 80 during the summer and maybe from now on?

80 is okay-mine sits there all the time. There are probably some inverts that would prefer it a little cooler, but just make sure your oxygen levels are adequate, which is the real culprit with an incrase in temp. Some fish are from cooler waters ie off the calif coast and need chillers to thrive, but your more common fish are ok in 80. Mine was almost 90 the other day when we came home-didnt know there was going to be a heat wave down here and we were gone-did not turn the air on. Fish, inverts all seemed ok though-and now temp is back to 80 again.

Whether or not hight temperatures and temperature fluctuations will harm aquarium inhabitants depends on what inhabits your tank.

My 150 was getting alittle above 80 (normal temp is 80) hey, its hot in Tx! I put a small fan on top, and it keeps it right at 80, no fluxuation at all.

I have glass tops on mine, for a fan I guess I would have to take those off! Dont you get a ton of evaporation from that? Anyone know what temps are on world reefs? We are supposed to be mother nature right?! I have allways heard that water temps on reefs is incredibly stable, I dont get it! It doesnt have patches of warmer water throughout the day?! Air temps changes a lot between day in night even in tropical areas!
