Tempature question

my tank seems to run at a constant 82 no matter what I try. The heater is set at 75 but there still tends to be this excess of heat. I am running two whisper filters and a new light for corals. The temp was 82 before I added the light, so this is not the problem. It has ran this hot since it was originally set up. Could it be the heater? I know this is the range but I would like to keep it around 79 - 80 since the summer heat is coming. Any advice?
I know about microchillers but am on a budget. Is there a decent one around 30?

You have ruled out the Heater and if its not the light heating everything up. If your having same 82* temp at night with lights off, then its probably just caused by a no-name pump your using for your sump. Pumps for ponds and generic clear water pumps heat the water much more than the ones specailly made for saltwater tank applications. Swap it out for one a step up and the problem will go away. But confirm thats the issue before replacing. JMO

Fans work wonders. Just set up a fan to either blow over the sump, or over the surface of the tank water. Should easily take you down 2 degrees or so, for about $10.

Is your tank covered? Mine runs 2-3 degrees warmer with the glass tops on vs when they are off. I agree with the fans. It will help.

I do not have power heads or a sump. Just 2 whisper filters and the heater. The tank is covered, but unfortunately I have no way to mount the light over the tank. It is one of those Coralife Mini Aqualights for now, so I need to keep the glass top on. Does anyone know of a way to mount these lights? Any other suggestions?

I would say turn of the heater and see what happens, I was having a temperature problem also so I just took out the heater and the temp stays at a perfect 76 now. If not taking it out completely, turning down the temp a bit should help.
I would suggest getting some powerheads though, they are really important and keep away cyanobacteria.

what size power head should I get for a 10 gallon? Can anyone recommend a cheap but efficient one?
