Really it varies depending on what you're keeping. Most people keep fish only tanks at about 78-80 deg. and reef tanks 79-81 deg.

i am going to have a reef with fish, right now all i have is 2 tangs and about 100# of live rock. it only been up since about january ,yesterday i added a yellow tang and a sand sifting star fish and today i added another tang i figured i would give them about a month anf then add more:jumping:

From what I have read and seen... Variation is the killer... 78 Degrees is good 82 is good but only a variation of about 2 degrees either way is tolerated... Once you acclimate something to a temperature, you've set a standard. Stick to it...
So... in short, if your target is 82, don't let it vary more than 80-84. 2 degrees either way is the tolerance... Again, from what I have read...
Personally, I run 80 as a standard and hold 80-82.
