ok i'm reading here and there about different ways to keep your tanks temp..
I reading in my book and it tells me to keep it between 72-78 f
I keep mine at 74 as that what my thermostat lowest setting is.. has 2 74 and 80...
And why should you go higher if that is the case.. I'm only doing LR and fish right now.. not coral....
Oh and there will be a poll i'm on a poll craze (got some poll stuff going with my biz website so in the mood to do a poll to)

I keep mine at 79, because my house will be getting hot soon and I will only set my AC at 78. So this will help any major temperature swings which is what you really need to worry about instead of the actual temp.

Edit: My freshwater stays around 78-80 with no heater, but during the summer I have to keep the lid off and some times add small amounts of cooler water, when I do top offs.

I keep mine about 80, according to the tempratures that my live stock originates from (happy medium) plus when my house hits summer temps its easier to maintain as AZ mentioned preventing major swings.

Bangor (its one of the biggest citys here) if you can call it that........ about 1/3 of the way up the state slightly inland. funny thing is if you go to google maps and type in bangor maine then look for fruit and mount hope st, you can actually zoom in and see my house from a sattelite, I did it once for giggles, kind of unnerving though.......
