Our tropical FOWLR setups run at 77*F, but they don't really fluctuate more than a degree, as we run chillers/heaters that are on the same controller. All of the fishes do fine.
I agree that stability goes a long way in terms of temperature, but IMHO, 80*F is too hot for a captive system, as there's little room for the unexpected temp. spikes that can happen. The warmer the tank, the less head room you have for error.
