temperture confusion

So I thought the temperature of one's reef wasn't too controversial -- the books I have said 80-84 degrees F was about ideal. Now I find that my lfs likes 79, a prominant online site recommends 72-78, etc.
I have one tank at 79 and the other at 82. So far so good with both.
Any thoughts? They're much appreciated.
And no, I am not running a reef with inhabitants all from the same part of the world -- but nobody in there has specific temp needs that I know of.

Lower 80s is myadvice for various reasons, but other have their own thoughts. Definately keep it steady where ever you have it. 72 is just too low in my opinion. 78-84 would work, but that's a range, not a swing, so keep it as steady as possible, and try to stay under 86.

Temp in a reef aquarium has been debated a lot...I belive its vital to maintain stability and avoid fluctuations of more than 4-5 degrees daily. I try to stay around 78-82.

I feel better, because my temperatures are completely steady -- no change through the 24 hours or the four seasons (actually, we only have three here in california...). I'm just going to add a back-up heater in case the first breaks, the temp won't plummet...
I think I'll try to make both tanks the same for when I move creatures between them (I'm moving the big guys to the new bigger tank).
Thanks again.
