IMO dip strips are horrible. SOmetimes hard to determine color. I use the master test kit fron aquarium pharmaceuticals for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph. All other tests are Salifert. Im in the process of using all Salifert. Easy to use and very accurate.

I agree. I started out with strips and never could tell what my reading was supposed to be. I now use the liquid test. Mine is a Liquid Master test kit-very easy to use

I like the dip strips, but the problem is that once you break the seal on the package, the accuracy of the tests gets worse and worse as time goes by. They are good if you need to do a whole bunch of tests all at once, but thats it. I had a bottle of them for about 2 months. They were really accurate when compared to the results of my liquid tests, but after about 3 weeks they started giving me readings for nitrates when I had none.
If you are serious about the hobby, get the liquid tests. I recommend Salifert and Aquarium Pharmaceuticals...both of which I use. Don't let people tell you Salifert is too expensive, you can find them online for $10. :joy:

I have the aquarium pharmaceuticals test kit and I personally think the colors are hard to read.

Hold the test tube right next to the color bar under good lighting and close one eye.
