Thalassoma wrasse

Got to love it when you type 3 paragraphs, try to insert a 400x350 pixel jpg phot of your tank, have the freakin site tell you that it's larger than 500x500, lose everything you wrote, and sit here recounting your sorrows. Going to keep it short:
50g, clown, yellow tang waiting to outgrow my tank, in which I'll give it away, looking for wrasse, reef safe or not. Suggested sixline, but still checking all my options. Thought exquisite fairy was cool but other pictures showed much duller coloration. Wondering about any of the thalassoma genus wrasses such as lunar, sunset, hardwicke, and especially the five stripe aka pinkface wrasse, my favorite. Thoughts?

Here's my not so pretty tank, but hey, I'm new to this. Fighting some brown algae and cyanobacteria but should be fixed with soon to be RO water.

get rid of the fake coral.... put in some more live rock, and wait (depending on how old your tank is). If your tank is cycled than after the live rock go for some active fish. for the algae you can buy a few lettuce nudibranchs, an emerald crab or two, and some hermits. when your tank hits its first birthday, buy it some coral.
PS you could buy the coral earlier but your risking it like this dude did with bleaching his hair

Welcome to the boards, Schubert! :) Your tank looks like it's off to a good start, but I second the opinion on more live rock and ditching the fake corals/plants. I live about 5 minutes away from your high school, so if you ever need anything, just holler! And, I know a great lfs if you need one! :D

Probably one pound of live rock per gallon would be good. We got all of our rock online, but it was uncured. Since you've already started your tank, it'd be easiest to just buy live. We used to go to Plano Pets, but some of their fish have ich, so we only use them for equipment. ***** is not my favorite, but we did get a really cool royal gramma and our neon goby there. The lfs that I really like is in Plano. It's on the SW corner of Custer and Parker. It's called Exotic Aquatics. They're in a large shopping center that has a Kroger and a Scotty P's. We also like Dallas North Aquarium, but that's really far away and you have to take the toll road. What middle school did you go to? I teach at Ford. :D

Wow that's crazy. I went to Ford. I actually live in Fairview. What do you teach? Can't think of any of my old teachers that I know are still there. Good times...life was a whole lot easier back then...back when I wasn't on a full IB diploma plan, hence I'm posting at 1:30 AM, doing a physics project. But yeah I'm in the band, my only hope of enjoyment in school...of course we're the largest marching band in the world only in football season, but hey, concert season is great too. Anyway...yeah I'll have to check that place out, not too far at all. So you'd suggest another 50 pounds? Could I fit that in there? My main issue with the whole 'more live rock and less artificial coral' thing is that I'm horrible at aquascaping. I can never get that epoxy to work, although I haven't tried much because I figured I'd need to redo the setup.

We didn't use epoxy on our rocks at all. We've stacked them and restacked them until we found something we liked. In fact, I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but we even move our corals around. I've posted some pictures of my new fish and there's a full tank shot in Fish Photography under the thread Copperband Butterfly if you want to see what my aquascaping looks like. So, how much rock do you have in there now? Judging by your picture I'd say you could use an additional 30-35 pounds. Let me know what you think of the lfs I suggested. The owner is Ramin and his right hand man is Taylor. They'll be good to you. They're very honest and trustworthy.
I know exactly where Fairview is. We live off of Stacy and Angel. I teach English and this is only my second year at Ford, so you wouldn't know me. A lot of the teachers left last year when the new middle school opened up, so some of the ones you had may have moved on.
Good luck with your tank! These boards are awesome and there are lots of people on here willing to help. :D

Looks great. Nice copperband. That's probably the only butterfly that I really like...maybe I'll get one some day, when I have a much larger tank. I would probably be inspired to do something similar to your rock setup if my rock wasn't just brown all over...everyone else's rock looks really clean and colorful...too bad

Exotic Aquatics is great. Everything in there is very clean and healthy. You can tell they're serious about what they do. I have never seen tangs so massive as some of the ones I saw in there. Beautiful lunare wrasse in there too...and zebra moray...and harlequin tusks....if only I had a larger tank...Thanks for the reccomendation
