My guess is, the phone was already disconnected. Why pay the phone bill? The pile of money on the table was prolly the sum of his unpaid "unnecessesary" bills. I bet that if they check, his phone had already been nuked.
When the utility company sent the (automated?) telephone shutoff message did anyone pick up?
After receiving dozens of bills did he even open the one that mentioned the interrupter?
I'm just saying that if a live human being had addressed the man face to face during the interrupter installation (or anytime for that matter) to explain what was happening, he might be alive today. That being said, I believe that when God arranges His "face to face" there is nothing we can do to avoid it. Whatever the reason might be, I believe that it was Marvin Schur's time to go.
Maybe the guy did bring it on himself by not checking into a shelter. (if an opening was available)
I agree that the neighbors could have played a larger role in preventing this. If I see something wrong at a neighbor's house, I walk over and ask questions.

Same here Socal....We have a lot of elderly neighbors and if there's an issue we ask questions or help them. We moved the trash out to the curb for all of our elderly neighbors yesterday so they wouldn't have to try to take their trash out with all the ice on the ground. Don't want them slipping and possibly hurting themselves. But, like you said, for whatever reasons which we may not ever understand...this is not going to change the fact that he passed and it was his time to go Home....Won't have to worry about freezing...he'll be held in the warmth that he deserves.

I dont get it either the gov can give grants to people from other countries to take over all our gas stations so that one day they can blow em all up n level the us..........They can bail out car industry.... but they cant make sure people in need get help

+1 i guess this poor soul would have been better off if he was an illegal alien here in the usa. in ny the receive food stamps, rent vouchers, medicaid, wic, heap you name it they get it. RIP OLD TIMER.

300 million Americans in this country. One, a single one dies of hypothermia and were talkin' a right to life clause? Seems like somebody wants their name in the paper.
His power got cut off and he was in the wrong state at the wrong time. Tragedy? Yes. But I don't think any rules orpolicies should change because of it.

not really 3 br 2 ba just over 2000 sq ft i have some kind of problem i shut off power to thae house and it kept on going

Ok.....just want to clear up a misfact. Illegal aliens DO NOT ever receive food stamps. Only their chilren can do it if they are born here in this country. I am not trying to argue about whether they deserve it or not. This is what I do for a living. And believe me, we give out lots of money....my office is the biggest in the state of AZ and we approve over 2 million a month in food stamps (and just for info's sake it is now called nutritional assistance).
