good lights and a good, and i mean a good heater, i know you have a heater. but when i started i had a low quality heater. after i got my tank going good the heater stuck on and killed a lot of the corals in my tank.
also a protein skimmer, i don't have one and regret it more every day. if you can afford it get one

with the buying back of the fish i had, i got a good heater 75w submersable. how much does a good skimmer cost? and how much live rock should i get for a 25g , fowlr tank.

good skimmers are costly. a good one is about 130 and up. thats why i don't have one yet. lr about 1 pound per gallon. if your tank is a fowlr, the lighting is not as important.
good luck rick

firedad,
I've read in other postings that the protein skimmer isn't super important for a fish only system. Is this wrong?
Thanks!!

That is very wrong. The skimmer is going to take out all of the bad stuff that the livestock produce in the water. I have an Aqua C Remora and would highly recommend it. I have to empty the cup about once a week and it is some nasty stuff.

steve,
A friend recommended purchasing a Bak Pak. Does that skimmer have a good reputation?
Thanks again!!

From everything that I have read on here the 2 best skimmers (hang on tank skimmers) that people like are the Aqua C Remora and the Bak Pak. I have the Aqua C and love it.
