That Noisy Mag

My return system is run with a Mag Drive 950 run external. This thing is a little noiser than I would like. I was warned previously that this could be noisy but The mag fit my budget at the time.
My idea was to build some sort of box that would go around the pump to keep some of the noise down. I know that heat could be a problem, but it doesn't seem very warm after several days of constant use.
Does the box idea sound ok? What do other people do to reduce the noise of pumps?

I use to have my M9.5 out side on my other tank and they never made any noise and did not get hot. Just a little warm. Maybe just something wrong w/ yours. I had them on a pad for vibration.

Mine doesn't get hot either. Just a little noisy. Kind of like a buzzing noise from the water rushing through it. Any ideas?

No...thats not it. I can tell its internal. What does the rubber flap do that is inside the impeller cover just below the outflow? Could this be causing the buzzing?

One thing that I discovered...I have a ball valve on the outflow line. If I crank it down about half way to reduce flow, the buzzing goes away.
Hmmmmmmmm...
:notsure:

I read a post where a guy placed his mag in a separate container with water in it. The water was to muffle the sound of the mag and allow it to run extenally from his tank.
I was curious if the water in the separate container smelled stagnant.

I have this same problem with my Mag 18. The pump sound like it is always sucking air even when it is not. It is very noisy at the impellar. I am using the 3/4 input Stock with muti outs.
